Saarang and The State of Gujarat

present Folklore – The Saarang Village, the most unique cultural show amongst college cultural events. A maiden initiative by any college cultural festival to partner with the Government of Gujarat, Folklore will popularise and spread awareness about Gujarati culture.

You will experience a complete immersion the instant you enter the village. From realistic  carefully planned ambience to intricate handicrafts, from awe-inspiring dances to authentic cuisine, Folklore will live and breathe the culture of Gujarat.

Cuisine:

• Our caterer (Thali corner) will prepare authentic Gujarati snacks with absolutely fresh materials, all cooked live in an open kitchen in the village.
• Each of the 3 days of the Village will culminate in a food festival. A complete Gujarati thali style dinner, with traditional delicacies ranging from khichdi to bajra ki bhaakris. Please register for the food festival online.

Performing arts:

• Two troupes will come all the way from Gujarat to perform traditional dances as  well as exotic tribal dance forms (The Vasava tribe from the Narmada district, Gujarat).
• There will be 3 shows, one on each day, which will showcase different sets of performances.
• Do remember to check with the hospitality desk or at the village for the schedule of the performances.

Aesthetic arts:

• Handicrafts, clothes, bags, folders and many more from the cottage industries in Gujarat will be put on display and for sale in the Village.

The Village

• From huts to haystacks, the village aims to recreate a relaxing, authentic atmosphere.
• Interesting and thought provoking information titbits about the people and the culture of in Gujarat.
