“Surveys show that the No.1 fear of Americans is public speaking. No. 2 is death. That means that at a funeral, the average American would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy”
-Jerry Seinfeld, Seinfeld.
If you’re not the average American, then we have just the thing for you. A four-pack of events which involve only that thing we do every day, for hours on end- talk. You can be serious, you can be logical, you can be passionate, you can be funny, you can be nonsensical, you can be absurd, and you can be solemn. Why, for those few minutes with the microphone in front of you and a rapt audience, you can even be God. All that we require is that you realize what the situation demands and speak appropriately.
Debate – The “I had a point” variety. Or “We the people, against you the people, because of our divergence”
Elocution – The “I had a dream...” variety. Or more recently, “We the people, for a more perfect Union”.
JAM – The “I had...” (buzz) “Unnatural pause” variety. Or “We the people, for utter and complete chaos”
Extempore – The “I had verbal diarrhoea” variety. Or “We the people, for want of anything else to say”
