You know where you are, don’t you?
I doubt that. I don’t really know if you do or if you think you do, but save it, I’m going to tell you anyway. You’re ‘amazing’. You’re ‘good’. You’re ‘better than most’ and in either case, you’ve just shrunken from a whole world of things that you decidedly aren’t. And now you’re this ‘opinion’, you’re this bunch of words: You’re ‘this’, you’re ‘that’, and that I think, is the worst thing that can ever happen to someone. Clear-cut, yet confined. Getting low with the leg-up, you know. You’ve just set us upon this standpoint, this steel-toed table and I guess we’d be sticking to it, taking an hour to be moved by the strongest pair of arms, and yeah we get it: We know you’re strong.
But we’re not giving you the hour.
12 minutes: That’s the deal. Make Shelby want ‘in’.
OUT FROM THE ‘OCEAN’:
About two score entries from all over, believe me that’s nothing short of spectacular, and you’ve given us a hell of a push in the pursuit of happiness, I must say. We’re glad. We’re overwhelmed, and you’re welcome. All entries were judged by Mr. Narayan, Head of the Department of Cinematography, LV Prasad Academy for Film and Television, Chennai. He was happy, so we’re happy, and we thought we’d make happy those who made happy, so here we go.
Our catch from the first act. One short, yet a force all the same.
• ‘PENCIL’ – LOYOLA (CHENNAI)

‘SECOND BREATH’:
The title’s more tell-tale than ever, because here you unwind your coil and wind it again, because we don’t want to see the ‘same old, same old’. Go left, ‘cause you’ve numbed the right side down. That could get you somewhere.
1. Same game, same name, 12 minutes. And that’s 12 minutes of ‘you’ and not Cristian Mungu. Be original, please.
2. What you’ve got is what you want and nothing can work better. So get your own cameras, your own gadgets and gizmo, for we’re not giving anything more than a ‘Thumbs-up’! (Not an endorsement!!!)
3. 3 Days inside campus, powered by your mind full of ideas. Or half-full at least. Don’t worry about locations, by the way, we’ve got a lot more than gazelles!
4. Let’s not taint the clean-sheet. We’ve been going smooth, so again, avoid excessive violence, profanity, nudity, pornography and drug use. No bumps.
5. Hand in your films before the deadline-to-be, for we’d be having a judge who’s very interested to watch your film, so let’s not deny him the pleasure, let alone denying you the prize.
6. Keep watching this space for more to show up!
Final short film entries would be screened before, and judged by an eminent personality from the film industry, and not to mention, the eyes and mind of everyone to whom ‘film-making’ means more than just imprinting colour on celluloid.
Once again, it’s a cynical world. It’s a cynical… world.
Make believe. Try us.
