How to come to IIT Madras?
- From Chennai Central:
- Approach pre-paid auto/taxi booking counter just in front of the Chennai central. Tell them that you need to go to IIT Madras (inside). Inside the campus, get down at the Hospitality Control Room (Directions to reach Control Room will be there inside the campus).
- You can catch a bus just outside the Chennai Central. 18B, 19S are the direct busses to IITM (Get down at Gandhi Mandapam/IITM). From the gate there are IITM busses to the hostels, every 20 minutes.
- Otherwise take any 18series to Saidapet and from there, any bus heading Adyar (5B, 47,47A, 47D, 23C etc) will drop you just in front of IITM Gate.
- Or take any bus to Adyar (1LSS, 4LSS, 6LSS, and 6A) and from the Adyar signal you can get to IIT easily by bus.
- From Egmore Station:
- Either hire an auto/taxi to IIT Madras(inside). Inside the campus, get down at the Hospitality Control Room (Directions to reach Control Room will be there inside the campus).
- Or catch 23C which heads directly to IITM. From the main gate there are IITM busses to the hostels, every 20 minutes.
- Or take any one of 23E, 23A or 23G to Adyar from where there are number of buses to IITM.
- From Airport:
- Either hire an auto/taxi to IIT Madras(inside). Inside the campus, get down at the Hospitality Control Room (Directions to reach Control Room will be there inside the campus).
- Or catch PP21 directly to institute or 21G to Gandhi Mandapam which is at a stone throw’s distance from out gate. From the main gate there are IITM busses to the hostels, every 20 minutes.
- You can also find many buses to Saidapet. From Saidapet again you can get quite a lot of buses to the institute.
- From CMBT:
- Either hire an auto/taxi to IIT Madras(inside). Inside the campus, get down at the Hospitality Control Room (Directions to reach Control Room will be there inside the campus).
- Or catch Bus number 23M or 5E which come directly to institute. From the main gate there are IITM busses to the hostels, every 20 minutes.
We will try to provide you transportation to IITM campus provided you have registered online giving us adequate details. Just look out for our Saarang Coordinators or Volunteers carrying IITM placards or Saarang banners at Chennai Central. The volunteers may be found on the platform, near the large electronic display monitor or near the Higgin Bothams stall. If you miss them, look for the IITM bus (beige & yellow in color) with IITM written on it in the parking lot of the Central Station (Opposite to the Reservation Complex).

NOTE: Picking up of participants is subject to availability of transportation facility. The number of candidates requiring transportation facility should exceed a minimum of 4. Exceptions may be made in special cases. Participants need to inform us at least a week in advance by emailing us at hospi@saarang.org. Confirmations will be emailed to you.
Accommodation and Food
First and foremost, please ensure that you register your contingent with the hospitality registration link on this website as early as possible. In the absence of such registration we might not be able to serve you in any manner, and you might be forced to arrange for your accommodation and food outside the campus, which may cause you inconvenience. Since our capacity is limited, we may not be in position to provide accommodation and food facilities to all. In that case the facilities will be provided to only those contingents that have registered online on first come first serve basis.
Upon reaching IITM, you are required to come to the Hospitality Control Room straightaway. This is where you have to register yourself. Nominal charges for accommodation and mess facility will be collected here depending on the number of days you wish to avail this facility.
Please make note that you will be required to share the accommodation. Requests for individual rooms or any other complaints in this regard will not be entertained. Also the accommodation will be restricted only to the students. A maximum of one faculty member will be allowed who will have to share the accommodation with the students at the same charges.
The participants are also expected to follow certain Rules and Regulations to help us maintain the festive atmosphere in the institute.
For accommodation and food facilities, you will be charged as follows :
- Accommodation and Food : Rs. 80 per person per day.
- Only Food : Rs. 50 per person per day
- Only Accommodation : Rs. 50 per person per day
- Refundable Caution Deposit : Rs. 50 per person
Above amount is to be paid in cash at the time of registration itself. The refund of caution deposit will be done at the time of check out on producing the refund receipt.
NOTE: All participants are required to carry their college identity cards and bonafide certificates in order to make avail of above mentioned facilities.
Control Room and Hospitality Desk
We at Saarang, strive to make your short stay with us, as pleasant and comfortable as we can. Whether you are worried about your accommodation, food or transport, wondering what the events are all about, confused about the schedule or worried about your registrations, we will be at your service 24 hours a day during Saarang.
You are always welcome to contact us at the Control Room for any kind of assistance. Allotments of accommodation, mess facilities are some of the functions of Control Room.
During Saarang, the Hospitality Desk, which forms an indispensable part of the goings-on, is set up just outside the main venue. Event registration and attending to queries about events are among the important tasks performed here.
For event registration at the Hospi Desk, production of ID card is mandatory.
Departure
We shall make arrangements to drop you back at the railway station/ airport as and when required provided, of course, if we are intimated in advance. Please keep checking for updates in this section.
